What to watch on Netflix NOW (Jan. 2015)

Tuesday, January 13, 2015

If you have Netflix then you've been there: you're in the mood to watch a movie and you excitedly open up your laptop. As the page loads up you're thinking to yourself...hmm...what to watch....hoping there will be a promising-looking movie on the front page. Three and a half hours later you're still looking for something to watch and by then you're sick of Netflix and just go to YouTube or Twitter or something, unless you're currently watching an awesome series...then you're set for...about a month and then you're in the same boat as the rest of us.

Well, I'm here to give you some suggestions on what you can watch on Netflix right now as of January 7, 2015. <insert thumbs up emoji here> I thought I'd start off with 5 series I recommend and then next week, I'll share 5 movies I recommend. (: Let's get started shall we?

1) How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014) - 9 Seasons

Genre: Sitcom/Comedy/Romantic/Drama

Main Characters: Ted Mosby, Barney Stinson, Lily Aldrin, Marshall Eriksen, and Robin Scherbatsky

Summary: How I Met Your Mother, or HIMYM, is a hilarious sitcom set in Manhattan, NY. It follows the lives of a group of 5 friends through a series of flashbacks as adult Ted Mosby is telling his kids the story of how he met their mother. So each episode is adult Ted's recollection of one part of his 9 season journey to find his soul mate.

My thoughts: I love sitcoms and HIMYM is one that basically embodies all that you expect from a sitcom: one moment you're laughing so hard your stomach hurts, while the next pulls at your heartstrings. It's crazy to think this whole time Ted is telling his story of how he met his soul mate. And you don't know WHO it is until the last season...it's awesome! Lots of inside jokes arose from this show. (-:

2) One Tree Hill (2003-2012) - 9 Seasons

Genre: Drama

Main Characters: Lucas Scott, Haley James, Nathan Scott, Peyton Sawyer, and Brooke Davis

Summary: One Tree Hill is definitely a drama filled series. You follow the lives of 5 people who go through all the ins and outs of friendship, love, heart break, business, and everything else in between. The series starts out in high school and after graduation jumps to their lives 4 or 5 years later.

My thoughts: I really, really loved One Tree Hill. If you've been following my blog, you probably already knew that since I wrote a post all about it. (-: I started watching this my senior year in highschool so I was about the same age as the main characters. It was kind of like a sneak peek for me at what life would be like after school...yes I know it's just a show but I learned a lot of life lessons from this show!

3) Gilmore Girls (2000-2007) - 7 Seasons

Genre: Comedy/Drama

Main Characters: Lorelai Gilmore, Rory Gilmore, Sookie St. James, Lane Kim, Luke Danes, Paris Geller, and Dean Forrester

Summary: Gilmore Girls is a hilarious series with a bit of drama thrown about. The series is set in a fictional town in Connecticut called Stars Hollow, and follows the lives of a fiercely independent single mother, Lorelai, and her genius daughter, Rory. The town is full of colorful characters so you'll never be bored!

My thoughts: I love, love, love Gilmore Girls. Did I mention I LOVE Gilmore Girls? :D It's a pretty fast-paced show but every single episode is filled with something. There's always some new drama unfolding or witty lines that just make you crack up. Great show, highly recommend!

4) Gossip Girl (2007-2012) - 6 Seasons

Genre: Drama

Main Characters: Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Chuck Bass, Nate Archibald, and Dan Humphrey

Summary: Set in the Upper East Side of New York, Gossip Girl is a drama narrated by an anonymous blogger known only as Gossip Girl, about the lives of a group of Upper East Siders. Full of scandals and e-blasts, this show is brimming over with drama.

My thoughts: This show is AMAZING. I'm a sucker for dramas and the lives of rich people so this was right up my alley. Every single episode is about some scandal or some drama that gets stirred up by an anonymous blogger called Gossip Girl. You don't find out who Gossip Girl is until the very last episode! I kind of want to rewatch it, now that I know who it is. ;D

5) Friends (1994-2004) - 10 Seasons

Genre: Sitcom/Romance/Comedy

Main Characters: Monica Geller, Ross Geller, Phoebe Buffay, Chandler Bing, Joey Tribbiani, and Rachel Green

Summary: Friends follows the lives of a group of best friends who all live in the same apartment complex in Manhattan, New York. This sitcom has humor, heartbreak and everything in between!

My thoughts: Like I mentioned before, I love sitcoms and although I just started Friends recently, I love it. It's so light-hearted and just takes an awesome approach to a group of friends who are super close. Makes me wish I had a group of friends like that! Only on season 2, but since the episodes are only like...20ish minutes, I think I'll be through all 10 seasons in no time. ;D So far, my favorite character would have to be a tie between Phoebe and Chandler because they're both so funny!

And there it is folks, 5 series I think you should watch on Netflix NOW, and I mean NOW because Netflix has this thing where they take off shows/movies without letting you know. D: Tune in next week to see 5 movie suggestions for Netflix! (:

  5. I wish I had Netflix. I really want to watch Gossip Girl, and they seem to have a LOT more interesting TV shows than Amazon Prime. I might have to subscribe to it again in the near future.

  6. I love most of these shows! I'm currently watching 90210 on Netflix, which is kind of like a toned down, California version of Gossip Girl, with a less exciting plot line. It's still good though! :)

  9. Hmm, I never knew you could watch shows through Amazon Prime. o; Yeah, if you look hard enough there are some treasures buried inside Netflix. (: If you're able to, I'd check it out! You really only need one account for the family. I use my sisters and the only limitation is that there can only be two people on it at once, but we haven't really had a problem with it. (:

  13. Netflix is looking cooler every minute I read your posts haha! I would love to look at Friends like 100 more times haha! I used to have a field day watching Friends marathons on tv! Gossip Girl has been something I've wanted to watch for the longest. It looks like something I would love...I mean it has fashion and drama for goodness sake, ah-mazing! I feel like it would remind me of Pretty Little Liars with less of the suspense and killing haha. You should check them out if you havent already....Its getting crazy!!!

  14. Haha, it's pretty awesome. (; Yeah I never knew what channel it would come on so I never got around to watching it...plus I wasn't even born when it started...so I was already behind! Lol. I think you'd love Gossip Girl. :D Uh, it's not really like PLL...more of following the lives of a group of rich kids, lol. Yeah I was getting kind of bored of PLL but now it's getting intense. o; Lol, I can't wait to see the day you get Netflix! :D
