What to watch on Netflix NOW (2)

Thursday, January 22, 2015

Whoever invented Netflix had good intentions...and I L-O-V-E Netflix and all, but the amount of time it takes me just to pick a movie...I could've probably watched it twice over. Lol, I know Netflix can't really do anything about that but it's just one of those #FirstWorldProblems.

Last week, I talked about 5 completed series you should watch on Netflix, which you can check out here, and as promised, this week I'm going to give you guys 5 recommendations on what movies to watch on Netflix! I tried to pick recent-ish movies, since there are WAY too many oldies that I'd recommend. ;D Enjoy!

1) The Croods (2013) | PG | Trailer

Genre: Animation, Comedy/Adventure, Family

Cast: Grug (Nicolas Cage), Eep (Emma Stone), Ugga (Catherine Keener), Gran (Cloris Leachman), Thunk (Clark Duke), and Guy (Ryan Reynolds)

Plot: The Croods follows a prehistoric family on their journey of discovery as the world they once knew starts to fall apart...literally. Watch to see if they make it out alive!

My Thoughts: I'm a lover of animated movies and I'm kind of mad at myself that it took me this long to watch The Croods. This movie is HILARIOUS and I loved watching what it could have been like in prehistoric times. Dreamworks did an awesome job with this movie and it's well worth the watch. I think my favorite part of this movie was seeing what the "prehistoric animals" looked like! xD Super creative. MUST WATCH. (-:

2) 21 & Over (2013) | Rated R | Trailer

Genre: Comedy

Cast: Miller (Miles Teller), Casey (Skylar Astin), Jeff Chang (Justin Chon), Dr. Chang (Francois Chau), Nicole (Sarah Wright), and Randy (Jonathan Keltz)

Plot: Old buddies Miller and Casey go visit their best friend, straight-A student, Jeff Chang, to surprise him for his 21st birthday. After some convincing, Jeff Chang agrees to go out, even though he has a important med-school appointment the next morning. Will Jeff Chang make it back in time? Watch to find out!

My Thoughts: If you love comedies (and you think Skylar Astin is a beautiful human being) you should most definitely watch this! There's literally no meaning behind it, it's just a fun movie to watch if you're looking for a laugh. I mean, you can't go wrong with Miles Teller! Definitely not a family movie though. I turn 21 next year...this movie has set the bar pretty high. LOL. JK. I'd never do anything like this. xD

3) The Switch | PG-13 | Trailer

Genre: Comedy/Romance/Drama

Cast: Wally Mars (Jason Bateman), Kassie Larson (Jennifer Aniston), Debbie (Juliette Lewis), Leonard (Jeff Goldblum), Roland (Patrick Wilson), and Sebastian (Thomas Robinson)

Plot: Kassie, Wally's best friend, decides to get pregnant through a sperm donor (Roland) and throws an insemination party. Wally gets drunk at her party, accidentally spills Roland's "men" down the drain and ends up filling the cup with his own "men." Unfortunately, he forgets about the whole night, until Kassie comes back to visit 7 years later with her son, Sebastian, who seems to have the same neurotic tendencies as Wally. What happens when they find out what really happened? Watch to see!

My Thoughts: I kind of, sort of, love Jason Bateman. He always plays the same kinds of characters and they're always hilarious. My sister recommended this movie and I loved it! It has the comedy, the romance, and the drama: a recipe for a perfect movie. I love the tag line of the movie: "The most unexpected comedy conceived," you get it...? Haha, oh jeez. Great movie! I don't know why I keep saying that...obviously I think they're great movies or I wouldn't be recommending them to you. Do these recommendations even help? I feel like I'm just saying how great the movies are...*SIGH* (I've been *sighing* a lot too...)

4) The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) | Rated R | Trailer

Genre: Biographical/Comedy/Drama

Cast: Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio), Naomi Lapaglia (Margot Robbie), Donnie Azoff (Jonah Hill), Mark Hanna (Matthew McConaughey) and Patrick Denham (Kyle Chandler)

Plot: The Wolf of Wall Street is based on a true story about Jordan Belfort, a man who started at an entry level position in 1987, and by the 1990s he's making millions through his own firm, Stratton Oakmont, by defrauding the wealthy. While he parties his sex/drug filled life away, the SEC and FBI catch up with him.

My Thoughts: I gotta be honest with you, my mind was kind of in and out during this movie (probably because it's like 3 hours long!) but I think the reason I liked it was because it is based off of a true story and it's insane to me how someone could do this! Rip off millions of dollars...it just blows my mind. Plus, Leonardo DiCaprio...I mean come on! (Still waiting for that Oscar...) It's a long movie, but I think it's worth the watch. Definitely not family-safe. Lots of cursing, sex, drugs, etc. I'm pretty sure every line has at least one curse word in it. (Lol, curse word...that sounds so weird.)

5) Silver Linings Playbook (2012) | Rated R | Trailer

Genre: Drama/Comedy/Romance

Cast: Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper), Pat Solitano, Sr. (Robert De Niro), Dolores (Jacki Weaver), Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), Danny (Chris Tucker), Veronica (Julia Stiles), and Dr. Cliff Patel (Anupam Kher)

Plot: After losing his job and his wife, and spending some time in a mental institution, Pat Solitano ends up moving back home with his parents. Pat is determined to rebuild his life so he can get back with his wife, and then he meets Tiffany...and things get a bit complicated. Watch to see if Pat is able to get back together with his wife!

My Thoughts: It's been a while since I watched this movie, but I do know that it was a good one. I usually don't watch movies like this but something about it just kept drawing me in. It was definitely intense and a bit like "whoa!" in some parts, but overall I think it was worth the watch. (: I'm pretty sure it's a book too, if you want to read it instead.

And there are my 5 movie recommendations. I know they're not suitable for all ages, and I apologize for that, but they're movies that I've enjoyed on Netflix and I feel confident about recommending to you guys. Again, I'd try to watch these as soon as possible, because you never know when Netflix will remove a movie! o;

Are you going to watch any of these movies?
Do you have any suggestions on what to watch on Netflix?

  2. I love The Croods! I was pleasantly surprised at how good of a movie it was. The Wolf of Wallstreet is on my list of movies to watch but like you mentioned...it's just so dang long. Silver Linings Playbook is also super good and a very realistic adaptation of bipolar disorder. I'll have to check out the other movies you mentioned! I love these posts for ideas on what to watch :)

  4. It always takes me forever to pick a movie on Netflix too -- and even longer when I'm trying to pick a new TV-show! I've already watched Wolf of Wall Street and Silver Linings Playbook… Sadly, I wasn't very impressed with either of them. The Croods sounds like fun though, I'll give that a try :)

  8. If it's affordable for you, I'd definitely recommend it! It just makes it easier to watch shows/movies on your own time. Lol, great way to pass time but it can become quite an addiction. o; Oh my gosh you gotta check out at least one of the movies on this list! (: The Croods was awesomely hilarious, even as an "adult." Lol yeah the same people who wrote The Hangover wrote 21 & Over. It was hilarious! :D I'm glad I could help Jasmine. ((:
