REglam: The Article & My Experience

Thursday, January 15, 2015

If you've been following me on Twitter, or like my page on Facebook, then you may have noticed that I had been posting about an article I had written for a new online fashion magazine called REglam. Their mission is to focus on "inspiring, empowered women worldwide, while recognizing the diverse beauty that exists in women of all sizes, shapes and backgrounds." They also put a lot of emphasis on loving yourself and having a positive body image, which is where my article came in! If you haven't checked it out yet, and would like to, here is part one and part two. I'd love to know your thoughts! Since this was my first time writing an article for a site, I thought I'd share my experience as well.

SOURCE
It all started way back in October of 2014 (why does that seem so long ago? o;) when Alya from REglam contacted me via Twitter. She was super sweet, told me a bit about the site and asked if I wanted to write an article for their website.

When I first saw the DM I was kind of in shock...like what? This cool, fresh new magazine is asking me to write an article for their site?! After looking through their site for about 5 minutes, I decided it'd be an awesome opportunity, so I replied back asking for more details along with my email address.

Within a day, another member of the site, Zoe, replied to me and let me know what they were looking for and asked for a couple of different ideas. It took me a while but I came up with three possible ideas and Zoe was pretty quick to respond. She approved the idea about Positive Body Image & Music and then the process began!

What if we still used typewriters...o; I actually kinda want one.
It was a pretty busy time for me, I had a lot of exams coming up, and I still wasn't sure what songs to choose, but after a week or so I got my shit stuff together and cranked out the article. I think the hardest part was coming up with three songs that 1) Portrayed a positive body image, 2) Were songs that people knew and 3) were songs that I actually liked. I couldn't write about a song that I didn't like...unless it was a negative review, which this definitely was not!

After researching and going through my playlists I landed on the three: All About that Bass - Meghan Trainor, You & I - John Legend, and Try - Colbie Caillat. After I was finished writing the article, I decided to paste it into Blogger and play around with how I wanted the layout to look. Design is really important to me, so I wanted to make sure I could let the wonderful people at REglam know exactly how I wanted it to look. So, I took some screenshots in preview mode, and sent them off along with my article, explaining what I was sending and why. Again, they replied pretty quickly and really liked the article! When I read that email I let out a huge sigh of relief! (-: Now I wait for the article to be published!

Fun Fact: It took me forever to come up with this graphic. ;p
So, I ended up finishing the article around mid-November and then in December I got super busy with finals so I didn't even realize that we still hadn't set a date for my article to be published. Then when January rolled around I got busy with New Years and revamping my blog and it slipped my mind again!

Haha, but I finally got around to asking them when they were going to publish it and they responded pretty quickly, as usual. (: Then on Monday, January 12th, my first ever article was published on the REglam website! :D It was so exciting and I was so happy that I got this AMAZING opportunity! If you read the article I'd love to know what you thought, and don't feel like you have to only say nice things. Constructive criticism is very helpful and I absolutely love it because it helps me grow as a writer. If you're not comfortable commenting, shoot me an email (adreamer62@gmail.com) or DM me on Twitter, whatever you feel comfortable with. (:

Yes I added this random picture of Selena Gomez, b/c why not?
And this picture perfectly portrays my overall experience. :D
Overall, I had a wonderful experience working with REglam. Everyone was super helpful, they responded quickly and I could tell how much they appreciated my article. I even got a response from the founder! So exciting. :D

The only thing I was a bit disappointed in was that the layout of the article wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but honestly, I got over that after I reminded myself what I was looking at. Silly me. (-:

Absolutely LOVED working with the REglam team and you could actually write an article for them as well. They're always looking for fresh new takes on fashion and maintaining a positive body image.

You can reach the REglam team on their websiteTwitter, Facebook, and Pinterest. I promise you this is not a sponsored post or anything like that. I just genuinely think that the REglam team and their mission, it's all really inspiring and amazing. Worth checking out. (:

And there it is folks. Yet another long, rambly post about one of my experiences. I hope you enjoyed it and if you actually made it this far...you're are an awesome human being and you should comment your favorite color randomly in the middle of your comment somewhere. (; Thanks for reading guys, and if you have any questions let me know!

What have been your experiences working with other sites/companies?
