First Time Carving a Pumpkin!

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

Yes, I have never carved a pumpkin in my life.

Yes, I am 19.

Yes, I know how weird that sounds, but if you knew me, you probably wouldn't think it's as weird.

Anyways, this weekend was the first time I carved a pumpkin and it was an interesting experience. I had to YouTube some videos to get the basics of how to carve a pumpkin. It's actually pretty much common sense, but I get weird about doing things the "right" way so I YouTube'd it just in case.

So first I had to get the pumpkin, duh! There was a pumpkin patch on the side of the road so I just picked one out from there. It was 15 lbs and only cost me like $5.

Then, I had to cut off the top and scoop out all the yummy pumpkin guts.
Next, I decided to sketch out what I wanted to carve. I decided on Transformers, because I thought it'd look cool all glowy and such. I used Expo markers so I could erase if I messed up, but I think a lot of people use Sharpie, or are just so awesome that they free hand it.

And now the fun, fun but hard, part....CARVING! It took me a while to get used to it but I soon got the hang of it and WALLAH! The finished product!

Overall, I'd say my first pumpkin carving experience was a good one. I had a few snags here and there but they were fixable. It got me in the Halloween spirit and now I can't wait to see what the rest of the month has in store for me!

Any other first time pumpkin carvers out there? Anyone else carve pumpkins yet? If so, what'd you choose to carve? Let me know in the comments below! (:
