Must-Watch Movies: The 1980s.

Wednesday, April 02, 2014

So, yesterday I was hanging out with one of my best friend and we were talking about what movie we should watch while we ate dinner and started rambling off a list of random movies when I brought up Grease. She said she had never seen it and my jaw almost hit the floor in shock. I could not believe she hadn't seen such a classic movie but then again, I just recently watched Forrest Gump so I had no room to talk. xD

ANYWAYS, it gave me an idea...why not share a list of some movies that I like? This will be broken into parts, obviously, because I can't possibly list all of the movies that I like. ;p So what better place to start with than the good ole 80's?

1) Grease (1978)
Main Characters: John Travolta (Danny Zuko) and Olivia Newton-John (Sandy Olsson)

Summary: Summer lovin' had me a blast, summer                                  lovin' happened so fast...♫
Grease is a musical about two teens, Danny and Sandy, who fall in love over the summer and unexpectedly end up going to the same high school. Watch to find out if they can rekindle their summer love! (:

My Thoughts: I'm usually not one to watch musicals but I absolutely L-O-V-E Grease! There's a great mix of romance, comedy, and drama...and you can't forget about young John Travolta! So dreamy. (; Haha. Definitely worth watching! (And it's on Netflix)

2) The Breakfast Club (1985)
Main Characters: Molly Ringwald (Claire Standish), Judd Nelson (John Bender), Anthony Michael Hall (Brian Johnson), Ally Sheedy (Allison Reynolds), Emilio Estevez (Andrew Clark), and Paul Gleason (Richard Vernon)

Summary: The criminal, the athlete, the basketcase, the princess, and the brain. Five teens get stuck spending their Saturday in detention and are forced to make the best of the situation. Even though they belong to different "cliques," they find that they aren't as different as they seem. Watch to see how they go in to detention strangers and come out with changed lives.

My Thoughts: If you're in high school watch this movie. If you're in college, watch this movie. If you're human, watch this movie. Basically you should watch this movie. (; (Also on Netflix)

3) Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
Main Characters: Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller), Mia Sara (Sloane Peterson), Alan Ruck (Cameron Frye), and Jennifer Grey (Jeanie Bueller)

Summary: Ferris Bueller, a clever teen, decides to skip school to go on a big adventure involving his girlfriend (Sloane), his best friend (Cameron), a Ferrari, Wrigley Field, the Art Institute of Chicago, and a Polish Parade. But his older sister Jeanie and the school's principal are bent on catching Ferris cutting class. Watch to see if Ferris can get away with it!

My Thoughts: Throughout high school I kept hearing "Bueller, Bueller," whenever someone was absent and after watching this movie I finally understand the reference! This is just a fun, feel-good movie that keeps you smiling. (: Definitely worth watching at least once. (Also on Netflix)

4) Back To The Future (1985)
Main Characters: Michael J. Fox (Marty McFly), Christoper Lloyd (Emmett Brown), Lea Thompson (Lorraine McFly), Crispin Glover (George McFly) and Thomas F. Wilson (Biff Tannen)

Summary: A boy named Marty and his scientist friend, Emmett Brown, find a way to travel back 30 years to 1955 via a car time machine, the time when his parents were just teenagers. However, his presence starts to mess things up and he has to make sure his parents fall in love and get married, or else he would never have existed! Watch to see if Marty can save his own existence!

My Thoughts: I haven't seen Back to the Future in ages, but I do remember how much I loved it! There are three parts and I honestly don't remember what they were about, but this has inspired me to go and have a Back to the Future marathon. Wanna join? (;

5) Dirty Dancing (1987)
Main Characters: Patrick Swayze (Johnny Castle), Jennifer Grey (Frances 'Baby' Houseman), Cynthia Rhodes (Penny Johnson), Jerry Orbach (Dr. Jake Houseman), and Wayne Knight (Stan)

Summary: Frances, or 'Baby', goes on a summer vacation with her family to a holiday camp, and ends up having "the time of her life." And through a series of unexpected events, ends up falling for one of the dance instructors. Watch to see the romance unfold!

My Thoughts: "I'VE, HAD, THE TIME OF MY LIIIFE, NO I NEVER FELT THIS WAY BEFORE." Yes, I have finally watched Dirty Dancing! I've been meaning to watch it for so long that when I actually watched it a couple weeks ago I had really high expectations. There aren't any huge, profound lessons, but it's just a great romantic movie. And I mean, how can you miss thee lift. (Also on Netflix)
