Mi familia!

"Family isn't always blood. It's the people in your life who want you in theirs, the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what. So be thankful for what you have. Don't wait until it's too late to tell someone how much you love them and how much you care about them, because when they're gone, no matter how loud you shout and cry, they won't hear you anymore." - Unknown

My mom and dad! <3
Yeah it's one of those posts again! Every now and then I feel the need to reflect on what I have and be thankful for it. Recently one of my friends posted about her dad and how hard she tried to be apart of his life but that it wasn't worth her time anymore because she thought that after 18 years he would have gotten the idea.

Her post got me thinking: all those times that I've been upset about my dad for not letting me do things, she never had that. I know it's weird to think about, why would you want someone telling you what you can or cannot do?! But I know that everything my dad does, he does it because he loves me and wants to keep me safe (although he is a bit overprotective).

I don't want to make this into a really long sappy post but I do want to take out time to be thankful for the wonderful family I was blessed with. We aren't the most functional family, but we make do and we all know that we love each other. Family is really important to me so it's really hard for me to imagine what she must be going through, along with all the other single-parent families. I'm not saying it's a bad thing to have a single-parent, I actually think it shows incredible strength and love.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that I am thankful to have both my parents in my life because they've each influenced me in different ways: my mom has taught me compassion, strength and honesty while my dad has taught me work ethic, dedication, and confidence (among other things of course!). I'm very grateful for my family and I know they'll always be there for me as I will be there for them. What are you most grateful for? Let me know! (:
