"As you waste your breath complaining about life, someone out there is breathing their last. Appreciate what you have." - Unknown

"Have mercy!" You might remember these words spoken by "Uncle Jesse" from Full House. Well, Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) is turning 50 this year so, the country's largest non-profit organization for young people and social change, has made Monday August 19 John Stamos Day. To celebrate, wants to send out 50,000 handmade birthday cards to kids staying in homeless shelters.

Every year about 3 million people in the United States alone find themselves homeless and about 1 in 3 people in homeless shelters are under the age of 18! So what can you do to help? Make a birthday card (or as many as you want) and send it to one of the shelters on the website.
"Everybody has a birthday. Help kids in homeless shelters celebrate theirs."
This is how it works:
1)  Make a birthday card.
     - Try to make it generic and non-gender specific because you don't know who will receive it.
     - Leave the inside blank so that someone close to the birthday boy or girl can write a personal message.
     - Need help coming up with an idea? Click here.

2) Upload a picture of your card to the website here. (This will help them keep track of how many cards have been sent)

3) Find the address of a shelter in your state you want to send your card(s) to from the list of shelters on the website here.

4) Mail out your card(s)! has also added an incentive: By mailing one birthday card your name will be entered into a lottery for a chance to win a $4,000 scholarship for college! For every two cards after that you'll be entered to win again and there is no limit on the number of entries you can receive! Make sure you upload your picture to their website so they know how many times to enter you!

I see this as a win-win situation: first you get to help celebrate a boy/girl's birthday who most likely doesn't really get a chance to and second you have a chance to win a scholarship! What is there to lose?

Also this isn't just restricted to the U.S., anyone in any country can participate! For more information about #StamosDay click here!

I'm definitely making some birthday cards! It's the greatest feeling in the world knowing that you're helping making someone's day better, even if it's just for a moment, you know that you got them to smile. (: I'll have an update post showing you the cards I sent and where I sent them. I hope you guys decide to make some birthday cards as well! Get crafting! (Is that a word??)

P.S: You can send the birthday cards until October 11th!
